Artistic Statement

I am an interdisciplinary performing artist who considers myself equal parts dancer, actor, and choreographer all around. My multi-hyphenate artistic identity greatly facilitates and informs aspects of my work. I strive to create emotionally evocative work through multiple aspects of performance. I believe in what my variety of perspectives from dance, acting, choreography, movement direction, and stage combat brings to the table as a collaborator. I love to fuse modes of theatre and dance to best pursue actionable objectives for a piece.

I aspire to utilize truth as well as technique inside artistic experimentation. I am also a firm believer that you must know the rules to break the rules. I work in modes of extremity in both athleticism and emotion. In my work I acknowledge the necessary antithesis of comedy and tragedy in performance. There is no merit to catharsis in darkness without the comfort of comedy. I strive with a light heart to continually maintain the joy of performance and playful nature of the craft. I celebrate the honor, and privilege it is to pursue my passion as my profession

As a choreographer or movement director I work with a combination of preparation and collaboration. I come to the table with concepts, outlines, and the necessary research and references for a piece. However, I love when other actors, dancers, and artists bring their own point of view to my work. In rehearsal I may ask performers to "tap out" or "let me be you" in order to investigate further the track for the performer myself. I encourage performers to advocate for their challenges and boundaries with in the work. I also ask performers to push themselves to test the edge of those boundaries and challenges. The best work comes from going to the very edge of what we thought was possible.
